The medium to dark ruby-colored 1991 Clos de la Roche has exotic wood (cedar and balsam), cassis, stone, and black fruit aromas. It is at its peak of maturity, showing evidence of evolved fruit flavors, caramelized leaves, and sweet cedar. Chewy-textured and firm, its fruit appears to be evolving faster than its firm structure. - WA

A beautiful wine that has much in common with the grand '90 Clos de la Roche, albeit not as broad and powerful. Medium-bodied, with pure, ripe fruit flavors, punctuated by notes of wet earth and cedar. Rich and silky on the palate, it keeps growing richer in the glass. Firm tannins on the finish still, so better try around 2000. (PM) - WS
