Reviews & Scores
The maturing nose combines moderate floral notes with those of spice, soy and hoisin. There is excellent density, power and minerality to the broad-shouldered flavors culminating in a long and dusty if ever-so-slightly dry finish where a hint of mocha appears. This has the potential to be very long lived and even at 20+ years of age, it's clear that it still has another 5-ish years or so before it reaches its full potential. Multiple notes with consistent results.

Of the 1995 reds that I tasted from DRC (Romanée-Conti was not offered at this particular tasting), the ’95 La Tâche is the only wine that at this very early stage, shouts out greatness. Though this wine is at least as closed as the rest of the DRC lineup in 1995, the bouquet explodes from the glass in an exotic potpourri of black berry, cherry, red plum, vinesmoke, venison, lead pencil, cloves, minerals and spicy new wood. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep and complex, with tremendous puissance, fine, well-integrated tannin, a great core of fruit and stunning grip on the long, palate-staining finish. This is a great young La Tâche that perfectly synthesizes opulent power and structure. It should prove to be an extremely long-lived La Tâche, as well as one of the wines of the vintage.

Excellent deep red. Higher-pitched, liqueur-like aromas of raspberry, cassis and licorice; subtle and complex. Lush, voluptuous and stuffed with dark fruit flavor. Finishes with dusty, substantial tannins that build in the glass. This wine fabulous fruit is easy to see today, but it, too, wants to shut down.

A sensational La Tâche that's as good as I remember upon release. Shows a suppleness in the tannins without compromising the compact mineral, wet earth and ironlike flavors that express this grand cru's terroir. Balanced, with lots of beautiful fruit, but above all it has pleasure and harmony etched all over it.
