Based in Prémeaux, Domaine Prieuré Roch has grown from its initial 2 hectares to more than 21 hectares of vines mainly in the Nuits-Saint-Georges and Gevrey Chambertin appellations. The unique style of the wines, showcasing purity of fruit and aromatic intensity with minimal intervention, has earned the Domaine cult status among Sommeliers and Burgundy lovers worldwide.
The name of Henry-Frédéric Roch first gained recognition alongside Aubert de Villaine on the labels of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. Inspired by his grandfather, Henry Leroy, legendary founder of Maison Leroy who became in 1942 co-owner of the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Henry-Frédéric Roch sought to make the purest and most natural expression possible of the Pinot Noir grape from great vineyard sites. In 1988 he started his own domaine, Domaine Prieuré Roch, applying the same meticulous care in the vineyard and in the wine cellar that applies to Domaine de la Romanée-Conti.
Henry insisted on using only the most traditional winemaking methods, including indigenous yeast, whole bunch fermentation, no chaptalization, no filtration, and no sulphur, in order to display the true expression of the terroir. The simplicity of Henry's approach coupled with the meticulous effort of charismatic winemaker Yannick Champ helped shape the Domaine's unique style.
