HONG KONG – April 29, 2025 – The Immaculate Collection of The Chairman, a historical offering of significant proportions, presided over a thrilling two-day auction in Hong Kong on April 25 and 26, as mature wines captivated collectors and drove the sale to a massive HK$90 Million in sales. One of the most important private collections in the world, The Chairman’s Collection drew international buyers out in full force, including numerous American buyers unfazed by any tariff issues. The most prized bottles on offer from The Chairman helped deliver the largest Hong Kong sale for Acker in nearly four years. The extraordinary showcase of rare mature wines stood as a highlight of the event, capturing the attention of collectors and fueling spirited bidding throughout.

The Top Ten Lots of the sale underscored the demand for mature wines, with aged Bordeaux and great Red and White Burgundy leading the way. Six bottles of 1947 Château Cheval Blanc took the number one spot, realizing HK$900,000 (US$115,090). The number two position was a three-way tie featuring twelve bottles of 1945 Château Latour and twelve bottles of 1959 Château Latour, both from The Ancient Noble Latour Collection, and twelve bottles of 2010 Domaine de la Romanée Conti Montrachet in OWC, each garnering HK$800,000 (US$102,302). DRC’s La Tache claimed the fifth spot twice, with twelve bottles of 1990 in OWC and twelve bottles of 1999, each ringing in at HK$700,000 (US$89,514). DRC continued its streak, securing the seventh and eighth positions with twelve bottles of 2009 Montrachet in OWC at HK$650,000 (US$83,120) and a twelve-bottle 1999 Assortment in custom OWC, which also tied twelve bottles of 2005 Domaine Leroy Corton-Charlemagne, all selling for HK$550,000 (US$70,332) apiece. The final spot was a four-way tie, including ten bottles of 1949 Château Latour from The Ancient Noble Latour Collection, a twelve-bottle 1985 DRC Assortment in custom OWC, a methuselah of 1985 DRC La Tache, and twelve bottles of 2005 DRC La Tache in OWC, each realizing HK$500,000 (US$63,939).

Among the mature wines bringing excitement to the sale were the great 1949s, one of the famous postwar vintages, including four bottles of Château Cheval Blanc selling for HK$160,000 (US$20,460), twelve bottles of Château Mouton Rothschild in OWC for HK$450,000 (US$57,545), and ten bottles of the aforementioned Château Latour for HK$500,000 (US$63,939). Wines from 1959, one of Bordeaux’s renowned “Vintages of the Century,” also performed impressively, featuring four bottles of Château La Mission Haut-Brion at HK$180,000 (US$23,018), eight bottles of Château Mouton Rothschild in OWC for HK$250,000 (US$31,969), twelve bottles of Château Haut-Brion in OWC at HK$425,000 (US$54,348), and the previously mentioned twelve bottles of 1959 Château Latour, selling for HK$800,000 (US$102,302). Widely considered one of the greatest in Bordeaux's history, the 1961s were also well represented, including a magnum of Château Latour for HK$160,000 (US$20,460), four bottles of Château Pétrus for HK$325,000 (US$41,560), and twelve bottles of Château Haut-Brion in OWC for HK$400,000 (US$51,151). The crown jewel of sweet wines, Château d’Yquem, also dazzled with treasures from the nineteenth century, including one bottle each of the 1825, 1864, and 1865 vintages, realizing HK$130,000 (US$16,624), HK$120,000 (US$15,345), and HK$150,000 (US$19,182), respectively, along with single bottles of 1900 and 1921 selling for HK$55,000 (US$7,033) and HK$47,500 (US$6,074). Mature Burgundy also performed well, led by a bottle of 1985 Jayer Richebourg, trading for an extraordinary HK$375,000 (US$47,954).

"The Immaculate Collection of The Chairman delivered one of the largest and most thrilling auctions we’ve seen in Hong Kong in years," exclaimed Acker Chairman John Kapon. "To witness the passion for these rare, mature wines was truly unforgettable. The energy in the room, the competitive bidding, and the sheer reverence for these bottles — it was magic! With the market continuing to show strong demand for the world’s rarest wines, we can’t wait for what’s next, including an extraordinary consignment direct from the cellar of Comte Liger-Belair in our next Hong Kong sale on June 7th, and our historic first auction in Zurich on June 14th."

Acker's 2025 auction season continues with a U.S. auction on Thursday, May 22, a Hong Kong sale on Saturday, June 7, followed by the inaugural Zurich auction on Saturday, June 14, and a return to the U.S. for a sale on Wednesday, June 25. Consignments for June auctions are now being accepted, with weekly web auction deadlines every Friday. For more information, please email [email protected].
