HONG KONG – JANUARY 20, 2025 – Acker celebrated the start of the 2025 auction season in Asia with a rare and highly anticipated single-cellar Burgundy collection, The Dragon’s Cellar, in Hong Kong on Saturday, January 18. The exceptional sale achieved HK$42 million (US$5.4 million), drawing enthusiastic bidders from across Asia to vie for treasures from this remarkable collection. Eight percent of eligible lots set New World Records, reflecting the extraordinary quality and rarity of the wines on offer.

Domaine de la Romanée Conti, comprising 20% of total lots in The Dragon’s Cellar, not only dominated the Top Ten Lots but also claimed the Top Twenty-Five, proving yet again why it remains the pinnacle of collectible wines. The number one position was a five-way tie, featuring a twelve-bottle 1990 DRC Assortment in OWC, three individual 1999 DRC Assortments in OWC, and three bottles of 1999 Romanée Conti, each fetching HK$650,000 (US$83,440). Close behind were another twelve-bottle 1999 DRC Assortment and twelve bottles of 1999 La Tache, both in OWC, securing HK$600,000 (US$77,022). Another twelve-bottle 1990 and a 1991 DRC Assortment both in OWCs each achieved HK$550,000 (US$70,603), while the tenth spot went to twelve bottles of 2005 DRC La Tache, ringing in at HK$500,000 (US$64,185).

Beyond DRC, other leading Burgundy domaines also delivered impressive results, surpassing high estimates. Six bottles of 2002 Domaine Leroy Romanée St. Vivant in OWC achieved HK$350,000 (US$44,929), while a Jeroboam of 1982 Rousseau Chambertin sold for HK$200,000 (US$25,674), setting a New World Record. Six bottles of 2007 Comte Liger-Belair La Romanée brought in HK$190,000 (US$24,390), and a single bottle of 1978 Henri Jayer Vosne-Romanée Cros Parantoux captured HK$180,000 (US$23,107).

“We were thrilled to kick off 2025 with a rare and extraordinary single-cellar auction in Hong Kong,” said Acker Chairman John Kapon. “This mystical collection has been on our radar for years, and finally unveiling its treasures was an incredible honor. The Dragon’s remarkable foresight in assembling such an extraordinary Burgundy trove, well ahead of the boom, is nothing short of visionary, and the bidding reflected its appeal. We’re now preparing for our annual Three Kings auction in the US on February 7, followed by our Chinese New Year sale, ushering in the Year of the Snake, in Hong Kong on February 22, and the much-anticipated La Paulée auction in the US on March 6–7. It’s already an exciting vintage for the fine wine market, and we look forward to the coming year.”

Acker’s auction season continues on February 7 with the Three Kings auction in the US, followed by a Hong Kong sale on Saturday, February 22, and the La Paulée auction in the US on March 6–7. Consignments are still being accepted for the La Paulee and future auctions, with weekly web auction deadlines every Friday. For more information, email [email protected].
